Membership Application

The Grand Rapids Alliance of Cooperative Communities is committed to building an inclusive and diverse community, who are seeking to connect, grow, and create with us.

In addition to fulfilling their lease, residents of our homes are members of the organization and each and every member is expected share in the responsibility for the care and upkeep our their home and the operational function of our organization, in the following "pillars" of cooperative community:
 

  1. Shared Contribution - dedication of time and effort to ward the completion of projects and tasks in the areas of cooking, cleaning, preventative maintenance and DIY repairs, lawn and grounds, gardening, and leadership.

  2. Shared Governance - bi-monthly house meetings, monthly board meetings, annual General Assembly, and various committees and task forces.

  3. Shared Community - bonfires, games and movies events, open houses and outreach to the wider community, and fulfillment of our community agreements on cooperative, mindful relating with one another.
     

In the manner of our many hands philosophy, fulfillment of these responsibilities ensures that we fulfill our mission and the aim to be a iving situation where you can:

  • Feel a sense of belonging

  • Make difference

  • Achieve affordable housing.

Application Process: 

You are welcome to Begin filling out the application now, but you must attend a Discovery Tour prior to consideration of your application.

 

If you have not yet attended a Discovery Tour, you can schedule at https://www.gracc.org/discovery

After you submit your application:

  1. our staff will review your application, conduct a background check and verify your level of income meets our requirements. Your gross income must be 3 times the room rent rate

  2. our staff will email you to inform you of the results and the next steps.
     

  3. If your application passes out requirements, our Membership Lead will contact you about scheduling a Decision Meeting which includes a community dinner, a chance to connect and ask more questions, a glimpse of our shared governance model, and the opportunity to decide if you'd like to be a candidate for membership​.

GRACC does not charge an application fee.
