Nourish Our Community
At the heart of the Grand Rapids Alliance of Cooperative Communities (GRACC) lies a simple yet transformative truth: we are stronger, more resilient, and more resourceful when we share.
F.O.R.K. = food ordering, resources and kitchen
(yeah it's clunky, but here's what it is about)
Our FORK fund harnesses one of the most powerful tools available to cooperative living—bulk purchasing power—to radically reduce the cost of everyday life. By pooling our resources, FORK bypasses expensive retail markups on household essentials like groceries, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and laundry soap, translating direct, tangible savings to every member's budget.
More Than Savings: A Shared Table and Open Pantry
But FORK is much more than a smart budgeting tool; it is the lifeblood of our community’s care and connection. Every month, FORK transforms collective purchasing into shared sustenance and individual food security.
Gathering Around the Table:
FORK funds 2,500 meals annually for our vibrant, twice-weekly shared community meals. These gatherings bring us together to break bread, deepen our bonds, and build a truly connected neighborhood. (Our calculations account for a full house of 23 members plus 2 invited guests at every single meal!)
Tailored Weekly Menus: Members actively collaborate on our weekly menu, communicating the specific items they wish to order. This is especially helpful for members with particular dietary needs or restrictions.
Dedicated member volunteers then take the wheel once a week, preparing a tailored shopping list within strict budget parameters, before heading out to source, purchase, and carefully shelve those requested items. And members volunteer to prepare meals as well as cleanup afterward.
A Reliable Safety Net: Beyond our communal meals, FORK continuously stocks our house pantry, ensuring that members have reliable access to food and household necessities throughout the week to supplement their personal needs whenever they require support.
An Investment in Sustainable Living
Operating on a monthly budget of $90 per member for a full house of 23, FORK proves that community care is both deeply impactful and remarkably efficient. Every dollar contributed goes directly toward stretching household budgets, feeding one another, and maintaining a robust, welcoming pantry.
When you donate to FORK, you aren't just funding groceries—you are sustaining a thriving ecosystem of mutual aid, democratic cooperation, and shared dignity. Join us in keeping our pantry stocked, our tables welcoming, and our community strong.
